Creating Libraries with other Network Shared Content

Post by Data_Dan »

I have Plex V1.3.3.3148 installed on my AS7004T. I have all of my Movie content on this NAS. I also have shared folders on a ReadyNAS Pro 4 on my lan where I keep my TV Shows, Music and Home Videos.
Plex doesn't see my shared folders. Is it restricted to just local content? When I input the path for the ReadyNAS //192.168.2.22/media/Videos/HD TV Shows and click "Browse for Media Folder" it just displays the local folders of the AS7004T
I could install a Plex server on the ReadyNAS but it doesn't have enough power to transcode the content. If I install the server on that NAS will the Plex server on my AS7004T be able to access that content and transcode it?
Any ideas on how to access content that is not stored on my NAS?
Thanks

You need to mount the network drives on the readyNAS onto the 7004T. Here is a document that I got for doing this, but it's for Asustor to Asustor, so you will have to do some conversions for the ReadyNAS: ftp://anonymous:anonymous%40example.com ... om/Public/ Look for a file called "How to map shared folder from another NAS in the same Network.pdf". I tried to do this, and had some issues, so haven't gone any further with it.

Let me know how this works for you.

Once the media folders are mounted the Plex machine should see them fine. If not, then let me know and I can try messing with it again.

I'm having problems with my ReadyNAS Pro 4. For some reason I can't connect to it using putty. I might have to install a plug-in for ssh to work. I have my share created on the AS7004T but I can't mount it. I might have to try something else, maybe use PMS on my Windows desktop instead of the AS7004T.

You may need to enable ssh in it's settings. I know it's not always enabled right out of the box with some OSes. To complicate things further, you may also need to do some port changes/mappings on your ReadyNAS. The port might be disabled as an "added security feature".

I had to install a plug-in called EnableRootSSH_1.0 on the ReadyNAS. I can now login to it using putty.

login as: root
root@192.168.2.22's password:
Last login: Thu Jan 5 13:48:13 2017 from 192.168.2.156
Last login: Thu Jan 5 14:01:55 2017 from 192.168.2.156 on pts/0
Linux DAN_CAVE_PRO 2.6.37.6.RNx86_64.2.4 #1 SMP Thu May 28 16:29:46 PDT 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux
DAN_CAVE_PRO:~#

Unfortunately I can't mount it.

login as: root
Using keyboard-interactive authentication.
Password:
root@AS7004T:/volume1/.@root # mount -t nfs 192.168.2.22:/volume1/media /volume1/NAS1
mount: 192.168.2.22:/volume1/media failed, reason given by server: Permission denied
mount: mounting 192.168.2.22:/volume1/media on /volume1/NAS1 failed: Bad file descriptor
root@AS7004T:/volume1/.@root #

Maybe the syntax of the command is wrong.

Create a ticket with http://support.asustor.com, and send them the file you got from my FTP and advise them of the steps you've taken at this point.

This looks like a permissions thing, but without some more info and a lot more experience on my part, that's as much as I can help.

I noticed that the Volume name on my ReadyNAS is Volume C not Volume 1 like on the AS7004T....still no go!
I think the problem is with the ReadyNAS. I'll try a few more things before I give up LOL!

Thanks for your help, Mike!

Got it working!...at least the files on the ReadyNAS are showing in the NAS1 folder of the AS7004T!
I changed the command line to: # mount -t nfs 192.168.2.22:/media /volume1/NAS1

Thanks again Mike!
