Boxee & .iso's

one reason for me to purchase this NAS was the capability to play .iso files to my sony tv ...

with dvd this works fine, only the video mode / aspect ratio needs adjustment a few times, not a big prob ...

however blu-ray .isos won't start.
i can see boxee trying to play it for 20 sec or so and then falls back to the start screen.
when i unpack the .iso and start the main .m2ts file inside the /stream dir, it plays the movie with no problem whatsoever :o

well this tells me that the hardware is capable of playing blu-ray HD content,
but has some probs with the .iso structure...
mounting the .iso with virtual drive was unsuccessful, file explorer even won't let me look into it.

unpacking every time is no option to me, loosing the BD menue, bonus material, 3D blu-rays etc.
and there are a lot of movies split into several .m2ts files.
3D blu-rays might have other issues in addition...

so any ideas & tips would be much appreciated to get blu-ray isos playing ...

I believe XBMC supports bluray iso's... I have a beta apk for XBMC and believe that Asustor are looking to release an official version once ADM2.0 has been released....

Did anybody try it yet? Also, what is the status of 3D support from ISO Blu Rays?

Hi,

I'm looking at buying one of the Asustor NAS's and looking at playing DVD ISO's that my Qnap doesn't do, and I came across people asking about playing 3d blue ray content. I thought what I have done for my Qnap might help.

I've tried loads of time to get various server software to play blueray 3d ISO's on my LG 3d TV, but no luck at all, what I did was to use a program called DVD Fab to put this into a single divx 3d file, this also came up with subtitles.

When I backed up my copy of 'John Carter' I managed to get subtitles of the translation of the 'Alien' speech into English subtitles.

In the DVD Fab program the breakdown of the blue ray structure, titles, and sound are quite clear, the only hassle is working out the best combination of title to sound, in the program is a tick box called 'use forced subtitles' this should give translations. Also there is a choice to build an external subtitle file or combine subtitles to the video file.

I only use this to back up my own 3d blue rays so I don't use it a lot, the full program is quite expensive, but covers dvd's and blue rays.

Hope this is of some help, if i can be of any help, please get in touch.

Paul

That sounds promising :-) But now that we have ADM 2.0, whats the status regarding XBMC?

It looks like XBMC is now a part of the standard set of (at least) the newest models.

Does it in reality support bluray iso's? Did anybody try it yet?

Also, what is the status of 3D support from ISO Blu Rays?
