Will there ever be a fix or workaround? im still waiting for that updated python asustor promised decades ago. Just like bugs i submitted that still being worked on for a year now. Bottom line is i doubt we will see an updated version any time soon. Best hope would be a workaround.

After one of the latest commits in SR things have started working again... a bit.
Check the new option :
2015-07-18
Added setting to disable SSL certificate verification under config -> general -> advanced settings (Committed on July 15)
If that still doesn't work you have to find a proxy which doesn't use https (yeah I know it's not ideal).

Never had that error but I've found some info here:

It seems there are a few workaround including modifying the .py file for torrentday

This works with python 2.7.10r10 and includes pyOpenSSL
