Another new (woot) owner

Post by MisterC925 »

I'd been in the market for a while and the woot.com deal on the AS-304T was good, so were the reviews.

I'm a network/systems guy by trade but wanted something a little easier to manage at home after dealing with 300TB+ of data at work all day.

So far I really like a lot about the system.

I am (as I've posted elsewhere) a bit disappointed that Asustor has not enabled the intel SMD transcoding in the chipset, but choose to view it as a challenge :)

My goal (which is lofty since I'm very rusty on kernel stuff) is to get SMD working on the ASUSTOR and then get the Plex transcoder (ffmpeg based) working the SMD as well, since right now transcoding a 720p mp4 uses 100% of all 4 cores and still stutters, whereas on other gear with SMD enabled, a 1080p transcode uses like 15%.

Welcome :)!

Glad to have you on board, and good luck on your endeavours!

PS. Here's the kernel config for your NAS if you need it. Can't recall if it's easily available or not (usually not).
