Boxee & Large number of Media/Music Files...

Post by TheCKruse »

Hola!

It look like I have a problem with Boxee and large number of Media/Music files...
I have just installed Boxee...
After the installation my AS-608T sometimes refuse to act properly...
I can't even restart it without turning Power ON/OFF...!
My question is: Is there some kind of limitation of how many files Boxee can handle..?
I have a large archive of Music, apx. 35K albums (330K files). All files are fully tagged (MP3/FLAC...etc)...
I know that eg. WindowsMediaPlayer has a limitation of apx. 150K files (the DataBase-file reach 4GB/32bit addressing)...

I don't know if there are limitations. However, you might be able to check if your NAS was running out of memory (ADM web -> activity monitor).
As an alternative way, you may try XBMC to see if it works for you.

I am running the Activity Monitor to see if something fishy are happening. But... When the system go "bonkus" the Activity Monitor is doing the same...
So I'm Back to square one... Power ON/OFF...

The XMBC is working OK... It does not build a DataBase containing all the tag's... It's just running files...

I'm just thinking;
Boxee is building a DataBase based on the tag-information...
Where is that DataBase stored..?
It can't be in memory, because there will never be enough memory...

...???...

Oops, no clues? Do you mean ADM web page froze (no updates in activity monitor)?

XBMC can actually do indexing (build database). However the user interface of XBMC is not intuitive enough (some may disagree, but it's what I feel at least). You should set content type when you add videos / music directories. The default is "none". :( too bad. When you set to "Movies", XBMC will do tags under the directory. You should see a new menu, called Movies, under the main menu. Of course, it should show movie covers on the screen.

The database, of course, is stored onto disks. However, the engine should allocate memory to accomplish the job. I wonder if there are many concurrent jobs at the same time if you own huge music/movies. Anyway, if you prefer Boxee (which I like too), you should send a support request to asustor. After all, it's definitely abnormal if NAS was frozen.
