You can turn your NAS into a Hi-Fi stereo system by installing iTunes Server and then hooking your NAS up to your home theater or some USB speakers. You can then play all the music from your NAS using your favorite mobile device. The two videos below will show you how.

What you will need:

ASUSTOR 6 Series NAS x 1
iTunes Server App from App Central (1.0.0.r911 or later)
Home Theater with HDMI-in / USB Speakers

iOS device with "Remote" app: https://itunes.apple.com/app/remote/id284417350?mt=8
OR
Android device with "Remote for iTunes" app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... es.release

Hi toprk,

The Remote app cannot turn your iOS devices into "player", which means it won't play the music on your iPhone. It's used to control the "iTunes Server" on the NAS.

After pairing your iOS devices with the iTunes Server, you can use the Remote app and select the player you would like to use by clicking the button at the top-right corner as marked in the attached screenshot. The default player will be "Computer" which is the NAS, but not your iOS device. You will either need a compatible USB speaker or HDMI-ready home theater to connect to the NAS in order to play the music.

And you should also be able to see your AirPlay device in the list after clicking the button at the top-right corner. Please let me know if this works for you, okay?

so by installing iTunes server will that mean I will have to convert all my FLAC files to apple format?
I have a heap of CDs ripped to FLAC.
Or does the asustor as-202TE have some conversion on-the-fly if I want to stream my FLAC'S to speakers?

thanks
