Deadbolt affected files

Post by Arny »

Hello, do someone know how to restore files from deadbolt. All my video files do not work anymore. I have renamed back to e.g .mkv but the file is not playable anymore.

Thx for any tips.

Without the encryption key, you're not getting them back, they're encrypted.

If you're using snapshots, it might be possible to restore files from them, assuming your snapshots weren't also encrypted.

Otherwise you'll just have to restore the files from backups you made.

Quick answer - no chance. Unless the creators of the ransomware did a sloppy job in using proved encryption alghoritms. Maybe this should be a lesson to everyone opening access to their NAS from the Internet or using un-proven remote access solutions.
