I had data loss myself when experimenting today. It seems very sensitive to removing/moving disks. I pulled all the drives and install onto a clean drive but i must have missed something because when i removed the new drive and added the old ones back it took me to the fresh install screen and didnt recognise any of the old drives as having data on them. (It might have been the fault of the unused nvme drive in the box confusing things.)

It scares me how easy it is to make the box thing it's a new install.
