VPN on the NAS or the router

Postby patrickjburt » Tue Jul 02, 2019 6:43 pm

I have a Synology router and NAS and I want to secure my torrenting with vpn i bought online.

If I Download VPN and Install VPN on the router so all traffic goes thru it, then I should be safe?

If I put the VPN on the NAS, am I still safe or if my "real" IP revealed when the traffic goes from the NAS thru the router?

Nothing is simple ...
A VPN can be unsecured as any network connection
... A VPN in a router can be intercepted / watch between NAS and router (for ex. through wifi)
... Any VPN are able to be intercepted at output endpoint
... Network application can request real information (including P2P App.) ... and can put any piece of code or virus or malware ... the only difference is the virus, etc. is encrypted during VPN but not at end point
... lot of VPN provider offer a low level of security to don't decrease performance
... in lot of country VPN provider MUST inform authority on law request about real I.P. of the requester (even the I.P. view by network is local to VPN end point)

VPN is really secure if you manage yourself the two endpoint (except virus, malware, rootkit that target the client (or server) even encrypted link)

The most secure (even no solution are 100% sure) is network on network like TOR if client AND server are using TOR

VPN level of security / anonymity depend also of the protocol used ... less protocol done better performance but ...

Last, remember that the security done by magnet (compare to usual torrent) is at same level that a VPN and for, generally, a lower cost.

Philippe.
NB remember, I only addressed 10% of the subject ...

As you know vpn is secure and mask your ip address, so you don't worry about IP revealed. Is this VPN paid? because free vpn is not hide your identity.

How about 90% off on the fastest VPN service. IvacyVPN is giving away their lifetime plan for as low as $60. The deal is live now!
