First backup - has errors

Post by alan_cam »

It's not really the fault of the backup software.
It's not my fault, either - I blame Eclipse.

To be precise, subdirectories of Eclipse ended up having a name and path over 260 characters long:
The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.\\192.168.0.7\Home\ASUSTOR\HERCULES@Alan\Drive#D\_Dev\2_File\EclipsePortable\App\Eclipse\features\org.eclipse.recommenders.feature.3rd.orbit_1.0.0.v20120612-2305-b156\META-INF\maven\org.eclipse.recommenders.feature\org.eclipse.recommenders.feature.3rd.orbit
If I set up a custom target, maybe I can cut down 13 characters: Home\ASUSTOR\
Or move Eclipse up to a higher subdirectory level: that could shave off about 6 characters.

Is there a TAR / GTAR app that backs up, and also compresses? That's the usual Linux way of handling archives with long filenames / paths.
