(SOLVED) New NAS - Wiped drives

Post by memnoch »

Afternoon All,

Minor bit of assistance required. I had two NTFS formatted drives - 3Gb and 1Gb. I put them in my rather new box and selected JBOD which in my previous experience means that they would run as they are ie a bunch of devices. Didn't get any warning about loss of data etc or drives about to be wiped.

Setup complete and the drives have now been formatted into a EXT2 and all my data is missing. Grrr

Now I'm guessing it was a quick format and has just wiped the partition tables given it only took two minutes to setup, what would be the best way to recover the data? Rebuild the partition table or use recovery software to another drive? ie testdisk

Cheers
Ralph

Update.

Managed to rebuild the partitions using testdisk from a live cd. A rather luck escape.

You are very lucky. Two-minute should be long enough to destroy the partition table plus your data.
