Multiple TimeMachine Backups

Post by McKuni »

Hello,
I would like to organise the backup of my Macbook and iMac in a way, so it does not fill up the available space on the my 302T.
I created one folder and user for the Macbook TimeMachine backup with a 500GB quota and another folder and user for the iMac with a 500GB quota.
Problem: It seems I can only share one TimeMachine backup at a time? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help

No. you can only choose one folder in the settings
i think that you will have 2 sub-folders (one for each Mac) in the same folder (e.g. called "McKuni Timemachine")
But maybe i'm wrong.

Hello,

I see what you mean - I will try one tm-folder with a quota of 1TB and point both machines to that share.
We will see how that works out in the long run :)

Thanks

Are both Mac's using the same user/account to access the NAS? If they are different users accessing the NAS could the quote be applied to each user separately? (Sorry, I haven't played with quotas on my 608) If they are the same user then what you last suggested sounds like the best outcome.

Maybe this is off topic. But I am now running two separate MAC TMs on one backup folder. But I do not know how to put a quota on the backup folder.. I have found out how you give a registered user a quota of space on a volume on the NAS. But quota on a folder... No...
