rsync backup not working

Post by asustoruser »

rsync backup job with "Rsync-compatible server -> Your NAS" over ssh is not working. Using the console the rsync command works. I suspect that the ADM does not care about the checkbox "Use encrypted transmission" but trys to connect via port 873.

Dear asustoruser,

Thank you for the feedback, would you please provide me the test topology and setting of "Rsync-compatible server " that you run the test with.
I have tested Rsync-compatible server -> ASUSTOR NAS with encrypted transmission on two major NAS brand, and both case work fine.

Many thanks,
JAMES

Hi James,

I just filled out the fields in the asustor dialog. Server adress is the ip address of my windows pc on which cygwin is installed. (I also tried with a linux pc).
Then I put in my username and password.
I also checked the "use encrypted transmission checkbox" and entered my username and password again in the ssh section.

I also tried to leave the first username/password fields empty and only filled in the fields in the ssh section. All without success.

As mentioned before I tired windows / cygwin as well as a linux pc.

Dear asustoruser,

In some case, the user name/ password of Rsync service and SSH service are different. Would you please check this point?
In the meantime, I will like to install cygwin on my pc and run the same test.

Cheers,
JAMES

Hi James,

I tested several different configurations for ssh and rsync user/password.
Did it work for you?

I Have the same problem :

I have as-604t and a DNS-320L (backup of asustor).
In rsync, asustor says : Unable to obtain module list due to insufficient access rights. (Ref. 5001)
Could you help me? what is the problem?
Thank you

and
DNS-320L for rsync backup

Another "me too". I have the same problem. Trying to use rsync with encryption using ssh, from a linux box to my AS-604T, same error as above.
Thanks

Hi asusustor support,

I think I'm missing some point. Could you please give me a hint how to solve my problem that is:

I want to backup some files from a remote host to my asustor nas via rsync. But the nas should initiate the backup. So I created a new backup job (Backup and Restore -> Remote Sync). Then I chose Rsync-compatible server -> Your NAS. In the next dialog I put in the IP address of the remote host (a "normal" linux machine) and the username and password. Then I clicked encrypted connection and put in the same user and password again (the user exists on the remote linux machine).
Unfortunately I keep getting the message: Connection refused by remote site. (Ref. 5606).

How to solve this problem?
Thanks

The 'problem' is they tried to focus on eye-candy rather than on functionality when they re-invented their messy workaround OS called ADM, which is an embarrassment to all experienced linux admins.

We'll probably all be better off just installing a bare-bones debian OS and extend from there.
We all know the tools and apps we *really* like and use on our asustor NAS are widely available for linux anyway. And more up to date, more secure, without the config horrors caused by ADM. Oh and with better support from a much larger user-base!

Let me know if you get ssh and rsync working on this DOA called ADM.

NAS ---> rsync comp server
rsync backup job over ssh is not working.
It ignores "Use encrypted transmission" and uses the rsync port 873.
Is there a fix?
