Backup Plan

Postby janez » Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:27 am

Dear Asustor-Guys

I was not able to run backup plan with HTTPS. Is it only working with HTTP? Are credentials submitted in creatext when using HTTP? Are there plans to make HTTPS available?

Thx alot Janez

Hi janez,

We don't have HTTP/HTTPS connection for Backup Plan,
currently Backup Plan provides two networking protocol for the file transferring

1. Samba(CIFS)

if your PC and NAS are under same local network, it's recommend to use this
you will use this protocol when you create a plan and select "ASUSTOR NAS"

2. FTP

If you want to communicate with NAS over Internet,
you can select "FTP site" when create a plan ( don't forget to enable FTP server under Service on the NAS),
we provide FTP over implicit TLS/SSL or FTP over explicit TLS/SSL even more.

I will also put HTTP/HTTPS as a feature request, thank you for your suggestion.

Cheers,

Hi Wall-E

Thanks for replying. I captured the communication initiation of BACKUP PLAN and noticed that the app was trying to establish a TCP connection to Port 8000. Unfortunately this port is turned off in my asustor configuration settings (Management/System) by allowing only HTTPS connections for the WEBGUI (Reason: I dont want unencrypted communication over the network). Apparently this affects also BACKUP PLAN. I think one should consider the HTTPS ONLY option of ADM in BACKUP PLAN allowing it to negotiate a connection on the "System-HTTPS-Port" e.g. 8001.

Best regards and happy holliday
