Hi All,
I had a drive go bad and did a hot swap. I presumed the ADM would be smart enough to recognise the swap and start a rebuild process but no. It just sits there with the red led on for drive .
My data is intact and I have backups.
Can someone assist me with this?
Thanks
Gerard

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
Normally it should. Did you replace with a brand new disk? Let us know your setup details in the Storage Manager, perhaps with screenshots.

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
Hi, thanks for the replay. The drive is a new Seagate ST4000VN008 and is the same as the others. I actually bought 2 so I have a spare when all this is done.
I noticed that the front panel was in sleep mode as it was evening here. Enabling all the LEDs showed much disk activity so I let it run overnight. This morning (about 12-13 hours later shows the red led still lit. Maybe it's still rebuilding?
Attached is a screenshot as at this morning.
Thanks,
Gerard
Edit: I forgot to mention that I removed the new drive a few minutes after I installed it as I was unsure it was propery seated into the bay. Maybe I interrupted the rebuild?

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
If it's synchronizing/rebuilding, you should see it's stated in the screenshot. Also during a rebuild process or whenever the disks are busy, it's not recommended to remove the disk in such a way as it could cause bad sectors.
Suggest you try shutdown, remove the new disk, start it back up, wait for the startup to complete (system idle), then reinsert the new disk see if it helps.
Without looking at the system, I'm not sure what happened in your case. I suspect there's partitions on your new disk hence the recovery didn't kick in. Unless you can troubleshoot in the system level where SSH is required or you can check if there's partitions by any means (external PC/USB boot), you can ask someone knowledgeable to remote assist. You can also contact Asustor Support but this sometimes takes awhile.

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
Thanks for that info. Much appreciated.
I'm just running backups now.....can't have too many backups!
When that's done, I will give your suggestions a try. Two things: 1) I do have another new ST4000 and 2) I have an external SATA box and can plug the drive into that and look for partitions.
I'll let you know what I discover.
Regards,
Gerard
Edit: Should the new drives be formatted? NTFS, FAT32?

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
No it must not contain any file system or partitions. New sealed HDDs shouldn't contain any of these but I've seen someone reported such case.Should the new drives be formatted? NTFS, FAT32?

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
Hi,
I followed your suggestion but used my second new drive. It came up straightaway.
I think this is what we want to see.....

Re: 6204T HDD rebuild
Looks good. You should also check your previous new disk in case you need to use it for such recovery near future.
