AS 7004T

Post by 123zorn »

So I have a number of ASUSTOR NAS products. My AS 7004T just died, it appears to be a hardware failure, not a disk failure.

I have an unused AS 304T, would it be possible to just move the disks over from the 7004 to the 304?

Sorry for your lost. You can try but I'm not sure if this is possible due to different architecture, not for the data but the OS and apps. 7004T is 64bit and 304T is 32bit. So the 304T probably won't boot up properly or it will ask to reinitialize (please stop there, else you'll lose all the data). However you will still be able to recover the data by using any linux machine. Please refer here: https://support.asustor.com/index.php?/ ... using-a-pc. Ignore the mentioned single hard disk if your disks are previously on raid. Just plug in all the hard disks and boot up the linux machine with mdadm. You can then copy out the data to an external medium (usb/lan etc).

I believe you can. However I'll recommend you to upgrade AS304T ADM version first: use another spare disk to initialize AS304T, and upgrade ADM version. After that, remove the spare disk from AS304T after power it down. Insert your original disks to AS304T, then boot up.

So if I were looking for the least expensive 4 disk NAS that is 64bit, and compatible with the old AS 7004T, which would that be?

Have you tested whether it works? I don't have those models but from my emu tests resulted in kernel panic they doesn't seems to work or my quick tests were flawed not done properly. Best answer is from someone owning them or Asustor Support.

The least expensive x64 (non-arm) I believe would be the AS3104T but still for better confirmation, do check with Asustor Support if you can directly transfer the disks to this NAS as they will have the answers. https://www.asustor.com/en/about/contact_us
