Can I swap a new drive in for data security?

Post by Zerubbabel »

Hi. This is probably a nooby question, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere else. I have an AS-6302T with two 4TB drives. It is working perfectly. I do worry about a fire or burglary etc though. I would like to have a third drive (I have one ready to go) in a third tray that I can swap with one of the existing drives to take off the premises each night. Is this as straightforward as I hope, or is there a complication? Does the remaining drive, for instance, automatically mirror changes to the swapped-in drive?

Thanks

You must configure as RAID-1 volume. Yes, NAS should do mirroring automatically. Before you swap the third drive with an internal drive, you'd better to make sure that your volume is in sync state. That's the way to make sure the last mirroring is completed.

However I believe it's unusual usage. It implies you write to the whole volume everyday.
