Backup Plan not working in the field

Why doesn't my backup plan work outside my home network where my NAS is? Do I have something wrongly set up or this is normal?

As I know, Backup Plan should use smb protocol. You can actually make smb protocol across internet (if you setup your IP as a public IP). However I believe no one will do that. It's too dangerous.
