Inactive status and duplicate drive when replacing RAID5 disk

Post by jona6tc »

Hi

I have a 3 disk raid five array in my AS3104T (the fourth slot is just a back up disk for other stuff)

The Raid array is Volume 1

Drive 2 in volume 1 failed so I replaced it with identical size (6TB) disk (WD Red)

Instead of the RAID rebuilding itself as I expected, the replacement disk just shows as INACTIVE and what is even more odd, it is showing twice in the list (ie 2 disk 2s).

I've attached a screen shot....you can't see if but the duplicate records have identical serial numbers so it is definitely seeing the same disk twice

If I remove the disk and reboot the NAS it shows drive 2 twice but empty

If I replace the old disk then it shows the old faulty disk twice

Before I initially removed the bad disk it was only showing once (but with errors) - so it looks like something in the disk swap process has caused this issue

I've raised a ticket with ASUS support but no reply yet

Anyone seen this / got any adice

thanks

Jonathan
