what is the preferred method of backup for as1102t

What is the preferred method of backup in ADM? and if so where I can see which files were skipped?

I was testing a backup from an external drive I had directly to the NAS, the transfer over went fine and all files were copied.
After wiping the external drive and then attempting a transfer back to evaluate an issue. ADM gives an error and says that files weren't copied but it doesn't clarify which ones weren't copied.
I am looking at winmerge currently to sus out the differences but this process takes a while.

I was going to try drag and drop again but when transferring it skipped around 300GB, the original transfer was around 800GB.

There's many ways to backup, also quite a few apps out there. You can start by Googling to choose which method suits you best on the NAS. Personally I use the ADM Backup & Restore for simple daily scheduled jobs and together with custom few rsync scripts for complicated ones. How did you actually made the transfer that it skipped data? Without details there's not much we can help.

To answer your question for details, I plugged in a DAS on USB it showed up on the NAS.
did a drag and drop copy over the from the DAS to NAS
it showed at the end of the transfer there were errors but when attempting to click on it didn't give any details. I don't really care that it failed, I just need to be able to look up why it failed.

A. where are the logs located for file transfers done via drag and drop? there has to be some type of syslog...

Drag and drop using what? It could be also an issue with the client and if that's the case then the log won't even register the transfer. You can enable the logs at the cost of performance under System Info > Log > Preferences > Management.
