Upgrading HDD on Raid 1

Post by klo44w »

Hi, I am a newbie. I am current running 2x4TB HDD on Asustor 202T, RAID 1.

I am thinking of future proofing, by upgrading to wither 6 or 8 T HDD, but one at a time due to budget constraint.

Will there be a big issue, and does it matter which disk I replace first?

Upfront apologies if this question has been asked before.

Your NAS is similar to mine which is old :D . Yes, you can replace your disk one by one. However you can see the capacity increased only when you replace both disks. If you only replace one disk, you'll see your volume size still remains the same. After your replace the second disk, you can increase your volume size (which is RAID-1 volume).

Oh, the replacing order should not impact to this behavior. Full introduction: https://www.asustor.com/en/online/Colle ... ?topic=352
