Make PHP go faster: how to do runtime optimization?

Hey!

I'm forcing ssl on nginx and reverse proxying everything to apache. Bigger apps like phabricator and owncloud are running really slowly ~3s for every page load inside the applications even in local network.

Would be awesome if you could share tips for tweaking it or how to install php-fpm or hhvm into this thing would be superb.
