OK I give up.

I'm waiting for a working PHP 5.5 package since 2013 and it's not released yet.

I've been trying to compile my own PHP 5.5 and 5.6 for several days with no luck.
I'm tired. Every needed libraries are too old in the asustor toolchain.
We cannot do anything!

I tried Ubuntu PPAs but it's the same... Every needed libraries are too old!

PHP 5.3 is DEPRECATED now and php 5.6 is out for production since few weeks and we still are stuck with 5.3 on Asustor units.
I really don't understand why it is so long to upgrade.

C'mon Asustor guys it's time to upgrade to PHP 5.6 (native or apk I don't care plus 5.3 webapps work under 5.6)!!!

Synology have upgraded to 5.5 so...

Just had another update to my unit (Version:ADM 2.3.0.RD51, Release Date: 2015-01-05) and was really hoping it was going to say "PHP updated to 5.6" in the release notes but nope. Nothing.

@ho66es there were problems with the last 5.5.13 beta release. Indeed it didn't work at all unless you disabled opcache.

The new one released a few days ago seems to be ok.

I really get the impression that although the hardware is good and the packaged apps are pretty generous too, no one from Asustor speaks English fluently enough to explain sufficiently simply how to make things work. There seems to be an all pervasive Linuxian mentality that wants you to understand how to rebuild your bicycle when you just want to pop down to buy some vegetables. I don't want to be forced to understand the inner workings of Apache, I want to improve my PHP coding from above its present elementary level. I can do it via my web page hosting company, but if I've got Apache, Mysql and php here on my local NAS, then it should be no harder to work with them locally as it is with my hosting company.
