Hello Father Mande, i came across something in kodi 18.1 and i like your oppinion about it.
I can't change the resolution of the user interface from inside the kodi settings. I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works.
It Looks to me that the resolution of the kodi interface is tied to the resolution you set in the Asportal settings. Because when i Set the resolution in Asportal to 1080p the user interface of kodi is set to 1080p but I cant play 4k video's because kodi crashes. When I Set Asportal to 2160p the interface of kodi is set to 2160p but I can't play 1080p video's because kodi crashes.
And my TV screen flickers when the user interface of kodi is set to 2160p. Kodi plays the 4k Video with HD-Sound but with screen flickering but when I change the soundtrack to a non HD one like AC3 the flickering stops. And when I use the optical out s/pdif there is no problem. Kodi 17.6 doesn't have this problem.

Strange don't you think?
Greets Peter.

Yes it's strange ... it's like Kodi (or Xorg & kernel driver) is not able to dynamically change the resolution ?
... can you post kodi.log and dsmeg result (syslog) just after crash (perhaps, for kodi.log with some more debug options on video & audio)
As I write in some other post, the libva and driver proposed by Asustor is now old ... and I am not sure that new libraries used by Kodi18 works as is ?
I will check and do some try BUT :
... not before next week ... I am in travel
... AND not as you, because I don't own a 4k TV or monitor ... so difficult to reproduce.

LAST : for sound (and perhaps others) , remember that it's an Ubuntu Kodi delivery ... so lot of binary addons are NOT include as in Asustor delivery before, perhaps you need to add someones first the audiodecoder using apt-get in myHD

I have a 1080p HDMI TV connected via a Pioneer AVR. I'm having an issue with the video calibration. Once the screen size is calibrated, if I restart myHDKodi 18 it reverts back to overscanning and I have to re-calibrate. Also the screen saver doesn't work. I uninstalled and tried myHDKodi 17.6. It works fine. I re installed myHDKodi 18 and the problem returned. I also noticed that my video library was not deleted when I uninstalled myHDKodi 18. Where is it stored? GUI sounds also don't work.
Everything else works great including DTS Master Audio and TrueHD audio!

I will try to answer point by point.
... no idea for calibration ... I will search
... ... but did you do an update of Ubuntu (so including kodi18) ? in a ssh terminal under root do : "myHD apt_upgrade_package"
MH-kodi18 APKG is "just" a launcher in Asportal, kodi18 is in Ubuntu env. managed by myHD
... kodi18 is the Ubuntu one using default "repository" from Kodi team ... so without change abd without update if you don't update Ubuntu as explain just before
... kodi17 is NOT from repository BUT compile by me in Ubuntu 16.04 for compatibility (as you do) ... MH-kodi17 is also a launcher
THE BIG DIFFERENCE is for binary addons
... in kodi17 ALL are include
... in Kodi18 as Ubuntu you must install them (NO by default) ... so for ex. NO screensaver are installed ... you must do it yourself
enter in myHD as root from a terminal
myHD_root
... list available binary addons and install one or multiple ...
apt-cache search kodi | grep ^kodi | grep -v dbg | grep -v dev
... install addons (here the screensaver
apt-get install kodi-screensaver-asteroids
... you can add grep selection for audio decode, pvr, etc.

Kodi18 use the standard .kodi folder as any Ubuntu installation
do in a terminal : enter as astr user in myHD (the default user for application)
myHD_user astr
... look .kodi
...if you don't want to enter in myHD use ADM PATH
... ... you can also get it (same) using ADM path : /usr/local/.myHD/myHD_1604_home/astr/.kodi

for kodi17 it's same BUT replace .kodi by mykodi17/.kodi/ (so each have a separate setting / addons folder)

Philippe.

Thanks that clears up a few things. I am totally lost when it comes to Linux. I haven't updated Ubuntu yet. I'll give that a try.

I updated Ubuntu and the built-in "Dim" screensaver now works but the screen still loses it's calibration.
I installed the Asteroids screensaver using the grep method but I couldn't find it in Kodi. As a test I installed the AppleTV screensaver using Kodi. It downloaded and installed it no problem. I am able to install other addons as well such as Watchdog and Backup without doing it manually so now I'm really confused LOL!

Hi,

Hum! it's a Kodi usage problem ...

The difference between installing on-line an add-ons and using a binary one ... is
... the on-line add-ons is enabled when binary add-on is NOT
... so in kodi, go to add-ons menu / ALL select Asteroids (in this example) ... Enable it ... so button Use is now available ... to start using it

It's the normal usage (as describe in Kodi Wiki ... section Linux / Ubuntu distribution

It's the SAME for ALL binary add-ons provide directly by Kodi in the Ubuntu repository.

For your problem of calibration ... I suspect A.V.R. to don't return a correct EDID information ... but it's difficult to debug not locally ... try to post in Kodi (or Ubuntu) forum ... remember you use Ubuntu 16.04 / Kodi from Xbmc team repository ... no need to add NAS ... Asustor is not directly impacted except for one point (so you can ask to Asustor support : it's for the "overscan" parameters in Asportal ... and perhaps for the resolution (set by default to auto) ... perhaps forcing resolution can solve your problem (the support can help you) ... for ex. is screen and AVR don't provide same frequency ...
If you have Linux skill (or ask the support) you can verify the choice (Xorg.log / xrandr / get-edid | parse-edid etc.) or post log here in case somebody see something ...
