Newbie motion detection question

Surveillance Center gives you the ability to collectively manage an array of IP cameras. Through its Web-based interface you can monitor live view feeds from all your cameras and play back previously recorded video.

Newbie motion detection question

Post by jona6tc »

Hi

Have installed a HiKvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS camera

I can see live stream on the ASUS and can set constant or manual recordings but I can't for the life of me get motion detection to work.

I've set the schedule on the camera on the ASUS to motion detect 24x2

I've set motion detection on the Camera (I presume this is necessary to send a trigger to Surveillance Centre?)

Never records on motion :-(

For ref

Surveilance Centre version 2.5.2.10115
ADM verison 2.7.0.RF72

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

I have also set Surveillance Center to motion record from my el-cheapo cam. When I check Surveillance Center (my version is 2.6.1.something, an unreleased beta) in Live view, the camera will show motion recording by an icon in the top right (if I recall correctly). Do you have an icon lighting up when the camera detects motion. You can also check the logs of Surveillance center, it will also list motion detection from the camera.

Best regards,
Kapitein Haak.

Hi no, no icon lighting up.

Did you have to set your camera up (ie connect to the camera) to enable motion detection or did you just set this up on the NAS...the user guide is not clear.

thanks

Hello Jonathan,

I did not need to setup this on the NAS (except for the recording schedule).
The motion icon in Live view:

The recording schedule:
motion detection recording.JPG

The logs from Surveillance Center:

I did setup the camera as a specific type in Surveillance Center (and not as a generic one) but this may not be your problem.
So first start at your cam, set up motion detection and have the cam mail you. If you receive an e-mail, you will know the detection works at the cam level.

Best regards,
Kapitein Haak.

Many thanks for your helpful reply

I'm definitely not getting that motion icon

I spent some time playing around with this again last might and I am more an more convinced that this is a camera issue

On of the features of the camera is an advanced motion mode where it is meant to highlight in green the area of the image where it has detected motion...it is not doing that even when I am signed in directly to the camera.

I need to eliminate the variables so when I get chance I will install the HiKvision server software and try this instead of the Asus......all very frustrating!

Thanks again for the information.

Could it be that your camera is NOT on the list of compatible cameras? http://www.asustor.com/service/ipcam?id ... and_id=159

For some reason I am now seeing motion events in the logs (good!) but they don't seem to be triggering a recording....has anyone else had this?

Hi jonatc,

Please update to Surveillance Center 2.6.1. If the issue persist, please send the Surveillance Center health record (go to Surveillance/ Settings/ Advance Settings/ DR. ASUSTOR and click "Export Health Record" button) to me.

Thank you,
