iTunes Server
I want to be able to play my music from the NAS iTunes server directly on my iPhone or computer but do not have either an HDMI cable or USB speakers, is this possible?

Re: iTunes Server
Hi Chalky,
Yes, the iTunes Server is designed for sharing all your music stored on NAS to different computers. As long as it has iTunes (the client application from Apple) installed, every computer can stream music/video from NAS. But this won't work on iPhone since the iTunes app on iPhone doesn't support this.
Besides, since we have a HDMI output, that means you can also connect the NAS to your HDMI-ready devices, such as LCD/LED tv, or even amplifier! Thus you can play your music on these HDMI-ready devices and use the iOS Remote app (by Apple, free download from App Store) to control it.

Re: iTunes Server
Thanks, one other question. I used the hot swap facility to remove one of my hard drives recently and plugged it into my computer via a USB docking station but my Mac does not recognise the drive and asks that it should be initialised, is this right?

Re: iTunes Server
I think it's possibly a filesystem problem. Mac only recognizes HFS+, FAT32 and NTFS (read-only by default).
Where the hard drive was being used? NAS?

Re: iTunes Server
Hi Chalky,
The operating system of our NAS is Linux, therefore, the filesystem of the internal drives is EXT4 which is not recognizable on Mac (the supported filesystems of Mac are just like what I mentioned in the previous post).
However, our external drive does support HFS+ (and others) which is compatible with Mac OS X, therefore, if you wish to switch the hard drive between NAS and Mac, you may connect the USB dock station to any USB port on the NAS in the future, and please also remember to format the disk to HFS+.
Hope this helps.
