View pictures or movies on the NAS from Android phone

Post by kurukuru »

Hi all.

I use ASUSTOR AS-604T and SHARP 102SH(android v2.3.5).
And I plan to shift main home NAS unit from Buffalo NAS to ASUSTOR NAS.

I want to view/download/upload pictures(jpeg, gif, png, etc...) and movies(mpg, avi, etc...)
from android mobile phone from the outside of home LAN network(WAN access, DDNS access).
Currently, I use Buffalo "WebAcess A" application to realize above things.
http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/englis ... wb_lp=JAEN

Now, I have 3 questions.
Q1:Is there any software or method for realizing access to AS-604T from android like WebAccess A?

Q2:I tried using DDNS access.
When I accessed to ***.myasustor.com form my android, I could get index.htm in AS-604T "Web" public folder
without any security(acountID or password, etc...).
Is there any method to set password on DDNS access?

Q3:Is there any method for realize external access(like WebAccess A) by using DDNS access?
(For example, I put file management software in the "Web" folder, and
control it from WAN android phone.)

Thanks.

Hi kurukuru,

Q1:Is there any software or method for realizing access to AS-604T from android like WebAccess A?

Currently we are making on our File Manager app on Android & iOS,
because our NAS support WebDAV, you can refer to the link below, it will show you how to use WebDAV on the mobile phone

http://download.asustor.com/college/en/ ... to_FTP.pdf

maybe you can try to search WebDAV on Android app store ( (I think there should be some app similar to WebDAV Nav)

Q2:I tried using DDNS access.
When I accessed to ***.myasustor.com form my android, I could get index.htm in AS-604T "Web" public folder
without any security(acountID or password, etc...).
Is there any method to set password on DDNS access?

After you enabled Web server, Index.html is a default webpage you will see when you connect to the NAS via the link http://NASIP
you can disable web server and disable port 80 (Default web server port), and then you won't see this.

Q3:Is there any method for realize external access(like WebAccess A) by using DDNS access?
(For example, I put file management software in the "Web" folder, and
control it from WAN android phone.)

Please refer to the Q1 reply

Hi Steve,

I disabled Web server, and I enabled WebDAV service.
At last, I could access my home AS604T by DDNS from my Android.
Thank you for your help.

Currently, I have two questions.

Q1:My AS604T EZ-Router setup is unstable.
I added port:9800 to forwarding by EZ-Router setup window once.
And port:9800 forwarding running normally.
But, now EZ-Router tells can't find UPnP/NAT-PMP router or it was disabled.
However, I can DDNS access to my AS604T now.
I use Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H router which is ASUSTOR recommended router.
What do you think about this problem?

Q2:I can DDNS access my AS604T by WebDAV android software.
But, when I open big movie file, I wait for a long time to watch the movie.
It seems WebDAV access doesn't support streaming playing.
How can I enable data streaming.

Thanks.

Hi kurukuru,

Regarding Q1 issue, could you please take a screen shot of the EZ-Router for me

About Q2 question,WebDAV does support streaming play, however, streaming playing not only relate to what kind of player that you used but also your internet speed
I'm not quiet sure about what do you mean waiting, does it mean you need to wait for the whole movie downloaded, and then you can start watching it?

With my experience, I use app "WebDav Nav" on my iPad to watch a mp4 movie at my home,
I just need to wait for a short time (buffering) and then I can watch a mp4 movie smoothly, but if i watch the same movie from outside,it will take a long time for buffering (my internet is not very quick  )

I see, and I understood that I was under a misapprehension.
As a result of my investigation, there is no problem about AS-604T streaming play.
When I open big avi file(2GB) in my home LAN(WiFi), I can watch the movie after short time(buffering).
When I open same one(2GB) in outer network(mobile 3G), I must wait for a long time.
It is a natural result, and I understood whole thing. :-)

I will be able to change main NAS from Buffalo to ASUSTOR.

Thanks.
