Monitor bandwidth usage by user?

Hello,

I am looking for a solution to monitor a user's bandwidth usage. I.e. the data consumed by their connection to the NAS. All I see is connection logging (timestamp when user signs in) and their drive space. I do not see any way to track their bandwidth. The NAS is on a metered network. This would be invaluable to me.

the LAN is metered? That seems rather strange.

If the WAN connection is the metered connection, then the fix is to not open the NAS to outside traffic. No need to monitor usage at all. Can only use the data on the NAS when on the LAN.

Other than that, there might be some other Linux tools that you could research. But not sure where to start, TBH...
