AS6104T IP stuck at 169.254.1.2

Hi, I did a direct connect to my Windows PC as per asustor's instructions
(setting my pc to 169.254.1.10 and 255.255.0.0) and it worked fine. Now, I moved the NAS onto my network connected to my linksys router which handles DHCP (192.168.1.x 255.255.255.0).
Yet the NAS still holds the 169.254.1.2 ip on subnet 255.255.0.0 and won't change that address to anything else no matter what I try.
I tried in ADM to set the network to Auto to pick up setting via DHCP (doesn't work)
I tried to manually enter a valid static ip address and I get some message regarding the gateway isn't on the same network segment as defined by the ip and subnet.
I tried the reset pin at the back of the box and other than resetting my admin account, it didn't' seem to affect the network settings.
ADM is the latest 3.0.5 RDU1
I'm not the most tech savy guy but I'm good at following instructions, unfortunately I'm stumped as to what the problem is. It's like the network service is corrupt, or something.
Any idea how to get out of this loop?
One thing I was thinking I could try as a final Hail Mary was:
1. Do a backup,
2. Remove all the drives,
3. Do a factory reset and replace the drives in previous order?
(essentially do the equivalent of a system migration)
I wonder if that will set whatever system networking file is botched and ideally preserve the data on those drives?
(*update, nope that doesn't work, I guess ADM files are stored on the drives because without the drives I get nothing on screen when I connect my HDMI directly to a monitor and boot up without the drives in).
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
