Sounds possible because asustor provides AS7004-i5 model. But it's better to check it with their support guy.

Question has been asked, and answered. Although it is an old thread you can find it here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7422

It all comes down to the heat the CPU generates and the heat the sink can remove from it.

If you get an answer from support, ask them if the heat sink has been changed, and if they would make that heat sink available for purchase for existing owners. If so, they have one sold, at least... :)

The response from ASUSTOR, was a NO, the i3 has a custom heat sink. Next upgrade to the AS7010T i5, would be nice to use the PCIe fibre channel card.

Only if you can afford the fiber routers and switches needed to use the card. Those can be spendy...

I am using a TP-Link T1600G-28PS which has 4 SFP. I found a media converter on EBay with fiber SC port to 2 gig eth ports. Will use the media converter to connect both eth ports on the AS7004t-i3 to the switch. That will free up 2 eth ports. Would be nice to have AS7004T-i5 or the AS7010T-i5.
