Upgrade Memory - AS-604T Won't Boot

Post by swedan »

So I have tried to upgrade an AS-604T with 2 GB extra RAM and the NAS won't start after upgrade.

Although the SODIMM modules aren't exactly as the recommended "compatible" modules they have worked for others (for example in this post). The modules are When any of the modules are installed the NAS won’t boot. It says "starting system" but nothing happens. Not even the power LED are lit:

When I remove them the system boots as usual and the blue power and the green disk led are lit:

So what could I conclude from this? Is it the NAS that is faulty or the two different memory modules from two different manufacturers?

I’d be very glad if someone could help me with this one.

I think it is too early to say that the NAS is faulty, the memory module you used is not on the compatible list

(1) Samsung 2GB DDR3 PC-10600 1333MHz M471B5773CHS

the first one is using 16 memory chips, my experience is 99% of chance it won't work

the NAS built-in 1GB RAM SODIMM use 8 chips Adata

(2) Corsair Value Select 2GB DDR3-10600 1333MHz CMSO2GX3M1A1333C9

the 2nd one use 8 memory chips, seems to be ok

I am using one 8 chips Samsung 2GB SODIMM (take out from the thinkpad x201), and the other NAS use 8 chips kingston 2GB SODIMM
both of them are from different manufacturers not Adata, but working fine

i.e. (1GB Adata + 2GB kingston) and (1GB Adata + 2GB samsung)

hope this helps

Well the problem is that none of the "compatible" memory modules are available in Sweden as far as I can see. And the ones that other got to work or "should" work won't work for me. So I'm not really sure how to manage the problem although I'd really like to try it out with more RAM. It doesn't seem like a durable solution to buy new memory modules until I find someone that works...

Hi there,

Can you please advise some available memory modules in Sweden? And we will definitely try to get some here to valid it for you.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As mentioned, and these two are the ones I tried in the AS-604T without success:
  • Samsung M471B5773CHS
  • Corsair Value Select CMSO2GX3M1A1333C9

But also (there are of course more available in Sweden, these are just a selection):
  • 2Gb DDR3 PC-10666 1333Mhz (F3-10666CL9S-2GBSQ)
  • Crucial 2GB DDR3 PC-10600 1333MHz CL9 (CT25664BC1339)
  • Kingston 2GB DDR3 PC-10600 1333MHz (KTH-X3BS/2G)
  • KINGSTON 2GB 1333MHZ DDR3 CL9 SODIMM SR X8 (KVR1333D3S8S9/2G)
