Method for copying files between two different NAS units

Post by kurukuru »

Dear all.

I use two NAS units ASUSTOR AS-604T(192.168.11.A)
and Buffalo LS-WXL(192.168.11.B) on same local home network.
Can each units copy directory/files each other directly without PC?

Now I copy files by using Windows file copy application between AS-604T and LS-WXL.
So it takes very long time to complete copying files, because these files pass through local Windows PC.

Is there some apps or method to copy files faster between two different NAS units?

Dear kurukuru,

Sure, you can simply do it with our exceptional 2-way backup solution.
I guess you wanna to do one time transfer, right
If so, please follow below steps to transfer data from one NAS to another via [Backup and Restore]
1. Enable FTP service on Buffalo NAS.
2. Log on ASUSTOR AS-604T and go to [Backup and restore].
3. Select FTP Backup and create a new job.
4. Select a transfer mode which fit your need:
a. You NAS to FTP server, to copy directory/file from ASUSTOR AS-604T to Buffalo NAS.
b. FTP server to Your NAS, to pull directory/file from Buffalo NAS to ASUSTOR AS-604T.
5. Key-in the Buffalo NAS FTP log in information
6. Select the source folder(s) you wish to back up.
7. Select the destination folder that you wish to back up to.
The wizard will guide you to finish the rest of settings.
If you have any trouble, please let me know, ok

Cheers,

Dear James.

Thank you for your good support.
I tried using ASUSTOR FTP backup tool for copy files from Buffalo to AS-604T.
Copying file speed is very good but AS-604T's some Japanese file or directory name is incorrect.
English file or directory name is correct.

Buffalo describes LS-WXL uses UTF-8 for language code.
What code is used for AS-604T?

If using Windows copy tool, there is no trouble like above description.
Is there any solution for using Japanese file name?

Best regards.

Dear kurukuru,

Our system is using unicode(UTF-8) as default language code.
Please try to change the codepage setting to "日本語" and see if it working alright.
Codepage setting is support @ V1.0.7R1M2. Please go to [Settings]--> [Regional Options] and select "Language"

Dear James,

I tried some codepage setting, but I couldn't fix file name problem at all.
My AS-604T ADM's version is V1.0.7R1M2.

I tried four settings as below.

1.AS-604T) Display language:Japanese, codepage:Japanese
Baffalo) Display language:Japanese, Windows client language:Japanese SJIS(CP932)
Result:
Copying files is good, but file name is failed.

2.AS-604T) Display language:Japanese, codepage:Japanese
Baffalo) Display language:English, Windows client language:North America(CP437)
Result:
Copying files is failed, but there is new 0-byte file which name is correct in target NAS.
The error massage is below.
"Ftp backup : failed to download file
(/volume1/XXXXXX.XXX): Remote file not found(78)"

3.AS-604T) Display language:English, codepage:English
Baffalo) Display language:English, Windows client language:North America(CP437)
Result:
Same as No2.

4.AS-604T) Display language:English, codepage:English
Baffalo) Display language:Japanese, Windows client language:Japanese SJIS(CP932)
Result:
Same as No1.

Is there another solution?

Thanks.

Dear kurukuru,

I get a Buffalo Linkstation LS-CH1.0TL-V2 to test your issue with ASUSTOR NAS and FileZilla (installed on a PC).
Looks like the Buffalo FTP server doesn't support UTF-8.
The only way to get the right file list and download the files is set the FileZilla to use custom charset as "Japanese SJIS(CP932)".
Our FTP backup (FTP client) currently support UTF-8 only, I have added the "custom charset setting for FTP client"as a feature request.
In the meantime, you may need to copy the files on Buffalo with Windows file copy application.....
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Dear James.

Thank you for your analysis.
I also recognized your analysis.

>Looks like the Buffalo FTP server doesn't support UTF-8.
Baffalo official support web announces that linkstation use UTF-8 format for language code.
http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/englis ... wb_lp=JAEN

But, actually linkstation seems to use Japanese SJIS(CP932) for file system.
And end user can't select UTF-8 on linkstation GUI software.(Only SJIS CP932, etc...)

>Our FTP backup (FTP client) currently support UTF-8 only,

I see.
I'm looking forward to getting new ADM update.

>In the meantime, you may need to copy the files on Buffalo with Windows file copy application.....
Ok.
In the meantime, I use windows file copy application.

Thanks.
