RAM for Lockerstor Gen 2

Post by snapshot »

Oops, I have 24GB in my AS-6706T. :D I'd tried an 8GB SODIMM from each of Crucial and Kingston but the NAS just wouldn't boot with them in. So I tried a 16GB Samsung that had come out of my laptop after an upgrade and it worked, showing the full 8GB + 16GB capacity. I'm not sure what the difference in spec is as they're all 1R 3200 CL22 although the Samsung is double-sided but I'll update this if I find out. It also show that Intel is fibbing again about the maximum RAM these SoC CPUs support.

I've now found an 8GB Samsung DIMM (M471A1K43DB1-CWE) that works and the secret is that it needs to be 1Rx8. The Kingston DIMM I tried was definitely 1Rx16 and I'm sure the Crucial would be as well if only Crucial made that info available.....

Did the Samsung SODIMM work? How is the system performing? I tried a Patriot PSD48G320081S SODIMM but had all kinds of problems. I put it in before starting. The system booted but ran really slow. The Status light was flashing green not solid. I couldn't make changes to some of the settings and the RAID array wouldn't synchronize. After 12 hrs of grief I shut down the NAS and removed the RAM. When it booted all was well.

Hmm...Had to shutdown the NAS temporarily to rearrange some cabling. It wouldn't power on after that. I removed the RAM and it booted up. I guess this piece is not compatible. Probably have to swap out existing RAM with a matched pair of 8GB SODIMMS or buy the Asustor RAM to get 16 GB working.
