AS5304T / HFS+ Mac journaled drive won't mount

Good evening, new to this model of NAS. Documentation says an HFS+ formatted drive can be mounted / read via the USB input. Yet every attempt the status icon shows the brand name, type & size of the drive but says "unmounted" with "unsupported format". I have purchased and bound (just for the sake of argument) the exFat driver from the Asustor App store...that didn't help. Everything I have found & read seems to simply say it will read it...no questions asked. Currently I am using HFS+ For Windows to copy files from the drive to the NAS but its horrendously slower than just plugging the drive into the NAS and letting it do its thing. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!!
