As-5304t Slow transfer speed with 2.5gb usb card.

Post by shaym »

Hi.

I upgraded my mac with a 2.5gb USB network card and a 10gb switch to enjoy faster transfer speed between my as-5304t and my computer but strangely with the original 1gb network I was getting around 110mb transfer speed and now I only get around 45mb what can be the problem anyone knows..?

Thanks,

What's your 2.5gb USB network card? I think you can connect 2.5gb usb network port to NAS 2.5gb port directly to test it first (i.e., without switch).

My network card is Club3D 2.5Gb it's base on Realtek 8125 chipset like all other 2.5Gb cards even the as-5304t 2.5Gb network inside the NAS is the same chipset. Don't know if it makes any difference but I'm on mac os x and using the latest drivers from Realtek.

Realtek 8125 chipset is PCI-e interface, rather than USB interface. I guess yours should be Realtek 8156. You might need to check mac network driver again. Anyway, the bottleneck might be on mac, USB card, switch, cables or NAS. You'll need to isolate those devices to find the problematic one.

I will try searching for the bottleneck I don't think it is my mac ( mac mini 2018 ) USB support is 3.2 gen 2 more speed than the card needs but I will look elsewhere. the strange thing is that I don't even get the same speed that I have with the mac 1gb adapter don't talk about faster yet.

If the difference between these 2 tested conditions (1gb is faster than 2.5 gb card) is 1gb adapter or 2.5gb USB network card. The problematic point should be 2.5gb USB network card (or driver).

Solved.! it looks like I needed to change a USB port to one with more power and everything wants to normal speed.
