Hard disk configuration

Post by Darkmagister »

Hello,
i have an as6404T that have 4 hard disk bay now i have 4 3TB ironwolf hard disk in RAID 5 as ext4, i was thinking on moving to btrfs, and to do that i need to remove and recreate the whole volume, so i was thinking while i'm here there is something that i can do to improve the nas ?
so i was thinking why i don't remove 1 hard disk and use an ssd as ssd cache to improve speed, then on the other 3 bay i can use bigger hard disk in the future to expand the storage or at least have it as before, so i'm here asking you for suggestion, with 3 disk which raid is better? safety is very important, but i need space .. :D

also do you think it's a good solution the ssd cache ? it's usefull, you can see the differences ?

ps. is there any good and easy way to move all my data outside the nas, recreating the volume and coping all back, without loosing all the nas configuration and app installed and settings ?

thanks
AS6404T
