AS5304T Memory Upgrade - Crucial CT4G4SFS824A

Post by DaveR »

I just added 4GB of Crucial CT4G4SFS824A memory to the empty slot on my AS5304T Nimbustor 4 and it works with 8GB shown in "Activity Monitor > Memory" and via "sudo dmidecode -t memory" in SSH.

I did have to reseat the memory twice to get the NAS to recognise the extra 4GB of memory was installed.

Now I'm getting 400MB/s SMB transfers using SMB Multichannel where before I was only getting at 160MB/s to 280MB/s even when using SMB Multichannel.

I just added Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Laptop Memory CT2K8G4SFS824A to AS53-4T. It was a purchase from Amazon for $35 and I am lucky that it was also next day delivery. The NAS booted right away and, according to the System Information screen, it fully recognized the 16GB installed. I also checked via dmidecode -t memory via SSH, and it was recognized and reported there too. I think for the price it is a fair buy. I will have to see if there is any recognizable performance improvement going forward.

I swapped my 4Gb RAM board for a Crucial 8Gb CT8G4SFS824a board DDR4 2400 SODIMM. At first I thought the new board was faulty - I tried it in the top slot from where I had removed the 4Gb board, and the system would not boot. I tried it in the bottom slot and still the system would not boot. After reading this thread, I put it back into the top slot and wiggled it around slightly to ensure it was well seated and then the boot up occurred. So I'd like to reinforce that tip: make sure it is well seated.
Kind Regards
