SFTP without write permission?

I'm trying to sync files between my server and my NAS through FTP but I don't seem to be able to write files från the server to the NAS. I have created a user under Access control and a shared folder which that user has RW access to.
I can login through SFTP with that user, access the files in that directory, but I cannot remove files, change files or write new files, I only get "permission denied".
What am I doing wrong?
