is this a good idea?

currently waiting on resolution from support for issues with recovering data from drives after a soft reset.

https://forum.asustor.com/viewtopic.php ... 09&e=44309
can be found above.

this could be the second time i will have to rerip all my media, my fault for having no back ups other than the physical discs.

what i am now considering doing is, as i copy the media, before i transfer it to the nas and it stores it as a linux file (or at least a non windows file) is saving it to a hard drive that i can then just store away somewhere as "hard" copies should i ever need them.
if something ever goes wrong in the future it would then just be a matter of taking the data from the stored drives and moving it to the nas.

is this sensible?
is it workable.

my knowledge of networking, nas storage, file types, etc is extremely limited. i only use the nas for media, movies through plex and music streaming on a streamer.

only help, advice, comments and pointers most welcome.

thanks

ken
