Asustor Nimbustor4 - NVIDIA GameStream

Post by Nazar78 »

Just to share...do watch in 4K (-:

This is about playing PC games with screen, sound and input directly from the NAS with very low latency. The NAS handles this GameStream technology very well. Your gaming rig could be in the room and NAS in the living room.
NAS: Asustor AS5304T (Nimbustor4)

LXC: Linux Center Modded (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish))

GameStream: Moonlight v4.1.0 (PC & NAS), HEVC (H.265), V-Sync off

TV: Samsung 4K UA65RU8000KXXS @ 1080p 120Hz

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 @ 1440p 165Hz

Game: War Thunder, Movie preset replay with all full settings.

Two scenes:
#1 Live TV recording from smartphone (perfect gaming experience)
#2 Screen recording from Nimbustor4 LXC itself (slightly high latency)
AS5304T - 16GB DDR4 - ADM-OS modded on 2GB RAM
Internal:
- 4x10TB Toshiba RAID10 Ext4-Journal=Off
External 5 Bay USB3:
- 4x2TB Seagate modded RAID0 Btrfs-Compression
- 480GB Intel SSD for modded dm-cache (initramfs auto update patch) and Apps

How do you managed to replace debian with ubuntu? I'm searching on this forum but cannot find much. I was able to run LXC container using raw lxc-* commands over ssh but such a container seems to be missing HDMI. If you can point me in the right direction, it would be awesome!

It's basically like from a headless and you want to install a GUI. IIRC you'll need ubuntu-desktop and a display manager, gdm3 will be installed but you'll need to switch to lightdm, use tty10, then some of the xorg inputs like keyboard, mouse and optional joystick etc. Sample from the existing xorg conf in debian. Also do all these offline like in chroot because the install somehow can get broken when doing in ssh. You'll encounter several hurdles which I can't recall most but it's fixable. One most obvious is acpi-support (reported known issue), apt-mark hold this before doing any upgrade or it will hang.
