Unable to disable read/write ssd cache

Post by jakob »

Hi everyone,

for reasons of changing the two ssds currently used as read/write cache for a 4-disk raid5 setup, I wanted to disable said cache.

Unfortunately this does not work. The corresponding dialog appears waits about a minute and is then shown as completed. However the cache is still attached. It seems to be however now in state of being in the process of detachment, as dmsetup shows:

Code: Select all

root@raziel:/volume1/.@root # dmsetup table /dev/mapper/md2_c
0 46856626176 cache 252:0 252:1 9:2 128 0 cleaner 0
root@raziel:/volume1/.@root # dmsetup status /dev/mapper/md2_c
0 46856626176 cache 8 21971/1049600 128 7372734/7372736 349713536 332706339 47730065 100006200 0 0 6552812 2 writeback no_discard_passdown 2 migration_threshold 2048 cleaner 0 rw -
Unfortunately this process is never "ended". Even after all the data has been written back the cache is not detached.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this problem. I could remove the cache manually, however I fear that the stormand will try and set it up again after the next reboot. Does anyone know, where this configuration is stored on the NAS.

I already created a corresponding ticket with asustor, but they seem not really interested in their customers, as there has been absolutely no response yet. The hardware is really nice of those devices, but the software is kind of unacceptable for a storage system in this price range.

Don't know what you tried to do, but this should work:

1. Open the Storage Manager app
2. Click Volume in the side menu
3. Open the Management menu and select SSD Caching
4. Click the Safely Remove SDD Cache button

@jacob
Did you manage to remove the ssd cache. I have the same issue. After a while, there is no more dirty block but the cache is not removed.

Code: Select all

root@asus:/volume1/.@root # dmsetup status
md2_c: 0 5851355136 cache 8 21971/1049600 128 7372729/7372736 23183418 28487461 157924 16752410 0 0 0 2 writeback no_discard_passdown 2 migration_threshold 2048 cleaner 0 rw -
And yes, hardware is great but software is a shame. I think I will have to dump ADM and install unraid or something similar.
(Asustor hardware and DSM soft would be just perfect)
