I am looking at getting a 2 bay unit mainly for audio FLAC playback and MKV HD Video via the HDMI.

In the UK on Amazon the AS5002T is around 185GBP and the AS5102T is around 335GBP. I realise that the AS5102T had a quad core processor and 2GB of memory, but for what I require am I going to see and difference and does it justify the big price difference.

I would say that AS5002T bangs the bucks! What a bargain!

Yes, you are going to see a big difference. Even the 510x is a bit light for doing video, although with Kodi and HDMI it may work fine. The smallest I can honest recommend on Asustor's line up is the 700x series. Not sure what the price in GBP is, but in the US it goes for around $1100.

I have the 7004T, and can heartily recommend it for streaming video via Plex Media Server. I haven't tried, and no intention to try Kodi with that unit at all.
