AS-304T or AS-204TE
Was almost going to the store to get a 304T but then have seen that you've got a new NAS. What are the differences? I've found only different CPU (1,2Mhz for 204TE and 1,6 for 304T). How important is that for home user? Price difference for me would be about $65. Is 304T worth it?

Re: AS-304T or AS-204TE
Hi Anmil,
Essentially, the only difference between the two models is the CPU. What do you plan on using the NAS for? How important the CPU speed is and whether or not it is worth it to get the 304T will depend on how you are using the NAS. Personally, I think the 204TE is a great value.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Allen

Re: AS-304T or AS-204TE
Thanks for your answer. I was planning to get a NAS for keeping common family media files (music, pictures, video) for use from about 3-4 PCs and smartphones so I think lesser model will suit me just nice.
As far as I understood from features it's possible to get access to the files collection not only within home network but also via Internet?
One more question - was looking into changing my router to something more modern (AC class) but I couldn't find newest Asus routers on EZ-router compatibility list?
Thanks again.
Andrey

Hi Andrey,
Yes, you can get access to all files on the NAS from anywhere with an Internet connection. You can easily access and manage your NAS from any Web browser or connect to it using an FTP client. The NAS basically acts as your personal cloud storage space. We also have the AiData mobile app that you can install on smartphones or tablets to manage and access files on your NAS.
More info here: http://www.asustor.com/admv2?type=4&sub ... en#content
As for your question about routers, we are continually updating the compatibility list. If it is a newer router, chances are that we just have not tested it yet. But I would have to suggest you use a router that is already on the list in order to avoid any incompatibility issues.
Thanks for your questions,
Allen

Re: AS-304T or AS-204TE
I have a similar interest, so is it the same CE5300 chip on both the AS2 and the AS3 only the AS3 is faster yes ?
Also does the Plex media server on app central work on the AS2/AS3.
Lastly which is more quiet the AS2 or AS3 ?, marketing blurb on AS3 page mentions quiet operation but nothing on AS2 page.
Thanks.

Hi Taxman,
Here are the chips we are using:
AS3 - CES335 1.6 GHz
AS2 - CES310 1.2 GHz
Also, Plex is available on App Central for both series. As for which one is more quiet, they are basically the same. Thanks for your interest. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks,
Allen

The only specs I have found on the CE5310 suggests that it doesn't have the HD video encoder.Allen@AST wrote:Hi Taxman,

Does anyone have an official specifications on these processors?
I am undecided between the as204te and as304t and would like to understand if there are any decoding compromises between the 2.

I also would like to know whether CE5310 have the HD video encoder or not. If not, I will buy AS-304T

Hi pegasus and z1022,
The CE5310 chip for the 2 series does not have HD video encoding.
The CE5335 chip for the 3 series does have HD video encoding.
Thanks,
Allen

I think if only play Video by XMBC, it should be not need "HD video encoding". I do know whether our understanding is correct or not.
