Quick Question about AS5304t

Post by Drendel »

Not sure if this is the best place for this question:

The AS5304t comes with 4gb eMMC, what is it for? Is it cache? OS Backup? What is different between having that and models that don't?

If I don't fall in error ...
NAS use a specific D.O.M. (Disk On Module) that contains grub, kernel, initramfs and kernel backup + some tools

This D.O.M. can be on a flash disk, eMMC, etc.
This specific D.O.M. is not accessible easily after the NAS boot and is reserved (an cleared) when update impacting kernel, Bios (for some series), initramfs etc. to ASUSTOR only.

On x86_64 NAS with some Linux knowledge it is possible to have an access to it, but I have not tested with new series (only with old so not same : viewtopic.php?f=49&t=10117&hilit=+recover#p32691 (read part concerning D.O.M.))
