Hello Developers
Currently, one cannot sync via rsync over ssh to another computer unless we are user root. This is not only limiting, but possibly insecure practice to be throwing root logins around. Please extend and develop rsync capability further, so that we may use it over ssh to different servers with user of our choice. rsync is a great fast efficient protocol - it would be swell to use it with flexibility and best practice
Thanks for a great product!

Re: [Backup & Restore - Remote Sync] - extend rsync
Hello
I'm really surprised that some years later, there has been no change in this dept. Ability to use rsync w/ SSH for offsite backup and not require root seems like such a basic thing to me. Some of us like to use smaller cleaner greener cloud providers like rsync.net (it's a company not the protocol), and steer clear of the amazon's etc.
Thanks,
S.

Re: [Backup & Restore - Remote Sync] - extend rsync
I second that. I've been a rsync.net customer for quite a long time (over 10 years) and their service is immaculate.
However, I just bought an Asustor AS5304T (and loving it), but I cannot use the remote sync feature with rsync.net!!!
Why are we REQUIRED to use "root" for an rsync over SSH backup???

Yes Please! This issue requirement for using root really needs to be rectified.

Is there anywhere we can actually vote or request this? It'd be REALLY, REALLY useful to me to actually USE my rsync.net account on Asustor directly.

Hi Doccaz,
Looks like you and "soundys" requests didnt get solved or answered.
Were you able to get a PM from support?
Cheers

It's a glaring issue/mistake in my opinion.

Nope, not a word from them. I had to do a workaround with another computer to read the files from the NAS via NFS and rsync them to rsync.net. That's just ridiculous!marcflo wrote:Hi Doccaz,

Good news rsync'ers! I had an exchange with support and pointed them to this thread. The anomaly is acknowledged and will be rectified in a near-future update. So, fingers crossed aye.
