I did report it and they had access to my NAS, but were not able to fix it. Then they offered that I downloaded some remote access software so we that we could have a look together. But, with the different time zones, it would mean that I have to get up in the middle of the night...and I don't feel comfortable with allowing so much access to my system.

Yes, that is what I mean. When in sleep mode, the NAS does not wake up. Sometimes it starts when pushing the on-off button shortly, but mostly the NAS does not react at all.

If you cannot wake NAS up by "pushing the on-off button shortly", there must be something wrong with your NAS hardware. You should contact to Asustor to fix it.
