ASUSTOR AS5304T with Samsung TV (UA55MU7000K) HDMI bug: 4K 60Hz is always reset back to 4K 30Hz

I'm using ASUSTOR AS5304T with 4K Samsung TV (UA55MU7000K) connected by HDMI.
ASUSTOR AS5304T has latest ADM version 3.5.4.RE11 with latest ASUSTOR Portal (2.2.4.r1225) and X.Org (10.14.8.R107).

It took few weeks for me to find out why I can't get 4K with 60Hz out of AS5304T :

1. If boot AS5304T WITH connected HDMI, AS5304T + Samsung TV (UA55MU7000K), than AS5304T always uses 4K with 30Hz on the TV.
1.1. There is NO way to switch on 4K with 60Hz after boot with connected HDMI.
1.2 ASUSTOR Portal in its Resolution menu shows only 4K with 30Hz, and no "ASUSTOR 4K resolution"

2. If set on Samsung TV (UA55MU7000K) for HDMI used by AS5304T "HDMI UHD Color" ticked, then
2.1 If TV has "HDMI UHD Color" ticked on used HDMI, than than ASUSTOR Portal in its Resolution menu does show 4K with 60Hz, but TV screen shows "No Signal",
and switching Resolution in ASUSTOR Portal to any other has no effect.
2.2 Notice that "HDMI UHD Color" itself works fine on TV, I could connect Mac Book Pro through USB-C-HDMI cable with "HDMI UHD Color", and I see the picture quality (small text) is much better in this mode .

3. Only if I boot AS5304T WITHOUT connected HDMI, than connect HDMI cable to TV, than I could choose "ASUSTOR 4K resolution" in ASUSTOR Portal's Resolution menu, and TV indeed shows 4K with 60Hz,
but this "ASUSTOR 4K resolution" will be switched off back to 4K with 30Hz if switch off TV by the remote.
3.1 Next time when I switch on Samsung TV (UA55MU7000K), I got back 4K with 30Hz, but I could go to ASUSTOR Portal's Resolution menu and choose back "ASUSTOR 4K resolution",
which switches TV back to 4K with 60Hz.

So only (3.) works, but requires to set resolution every time.
And (1.) is especially annoying.

I think it is a software bug in AS5304T.
I hope Asustor could fix it.

Yes, I have already reported to Asustor support, and got reply Asustor will check the issue.
Let's see.

But I'd like to share this issue for wider user's group, so other users (especially with Samsung TV) are aware of it.
I hope that AS5304T works better with other (not Samsung) 4K TV

Hi,

Just F.Y.I. based on my AS5202T (so perhaps not with the same Intel I.G.P.)
I used myHD APKG with it's own Plex Media Player and Kodi18/19 ... BUT I don't things it's important due to the usage of the same Xorg

my ascertainment :
At start of NAS Asportal is define to use 1920x1080 resolution at best frequency available. (check using xrandr)
... if your TV or screen support up-scaling ... you can get the menu on screen EVEN your TV resolution is 4K/60 or 4K/30
... if not the resolution is set at value define by Asportal

When you start a video using 4K ... ex. using Kodi19 ... the resolution is changed to 4k and the frequency is choice using the movie definition and the HEVC profile available on Intel I.G.P. (8 or 10 bits, etc.)
... when video end ... the resolution is returned back to the Asportal one, except if TV use up-scaling to keep the better resolution

So it's possible that the problem come from Asustor / Xorg / Intel implementation BUT it's also possible that TV act by itself ...
a good solution is to check at each step the resolution /and frequency view by the NAS (xrandr) and to check the video encoding used compare to the video acceleration available in the I.G.P. (vainfo)
... also check and change TV parameters to test ... for ex. when resolution is going back to Asportal default ... your TV can change to the 4K/30 to offer a better (or possible) up-scaling to offer the best 1902x1080 up-scaled to 4K visibility.

In all cases ... using only one point of view (NAS only or TV only) is not enough to understand the process ...

After reading your story i feel like adding my seamingly unliked story, never the less i feel there could be a link..

I have a samsung UE55TU8070. I use my 6102t via network with plex, not direct hdmi, the benefit of this that is can controle everything via the TV itself.
Never the less i have a similar wierd (possibly related) issue..
I watch TV via digital antenna and when i connect the reciever to any hdmi port of the tv the arc function on the 2e HDMI port stops working.
It have had soft and hardware repairs which created only other issues never the less this issue has never been solved.
Personally i feel there is something up with the samsung HDMI system.. (and therefor probably no bug by asustor)
ass i (for now) only have a 6102.. i cant play the files you mention over HDMI so i can't check if your issue arrives here too..

anyway. i hope this help a bit.

After installing ADM 4.0 Beta (4.0.0.BJ54) I cant get "ASUSTOR 4K resolution" in ASUSTOR Portal's Resolution menu at all.

Does anyone with ADM 4.0 Beta (4.0.0.BJ54) have"ASUSTOR 4K resolution" in ASUSTOR Portal's Resolution menu ?
