Hello,
I have a Asustor Nimbustor 4-AS5304T, with a single Seagate 16TB IronWolf Pro at the moment.
I would like to expand the capacity with another 16TB IronWolf Pro HDD.
Can I know what configuration needs to be done after installing the HDD drive (on the OS interface) ?
What RAID configuration can I use ?
My aim is to use all the capacity for storage needs, so the RAID config needs to be suited for this need.
Please let me know if you could help - many thanks

Re: Adding extra capacity to my NAS
If you want max capacity, choose single volume, RAID0 or JBOD. These will not have redundancy which defeat the purpose of having a NAS. Also conversion/recovery is cumbersome without backups.
You can read more to decide which level suits you better, take note especially point 1.2 if you were to decide to later change the RAID level: https://www.asustor.com/online/College_topic?topic=352

Re: Adding extra capacity to my NAS
ADM supports some ways to expand volume capacity: https://www.asustor.com/en-gb/online/Co ... ?topic=352
However, if you upgrade from single drive volume to RAID-1 volume, the current volume size won't be increased (mirrored). If you don't care of data protection, you can create another single drive volume (volume 2).

Amazing, thanks both for your view points (you guys are great as always !)
I will read through your suggestions, and take necessary steps with my NAS
If there are any other questions, I will get back

Re: Adding extra capacity to my NAS
Hello,
Recently I came across a method called 'UnRAID', which is quite different to the usual implementations of RAID in NAS systems.
I would like to know if Asustor would have any UnRAID implementations that I could explore ?

Unraid is another proprietary OS, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unraid

Re: Adding extra capacity to my NAS
Thanks, I take it that Asustor just works with RAID implementations only - thanks !
