Syncing Folder Structure But No Files

Post by canuckbrian »

Well I was in the middle of writing a huge post about a strange problem I was having, but then I found the cause.

Colons. I have a cronjob on my MySQL server that back's up and uploads my databases to Dropbox every hour. For some reason the DB archives weren't syncing to my NAS, only the folder structure was.

Found out that it's because of having the hourly archive names with a timestamp in them that contains colons. Eg: myDatabaseBackup-08:00.7z. I changed the way it timestamps the files so it didn't use colons and it's working great now.

TL:DR - If you're syncing folder structure only, or missing files in your sync, check for special characters in the filenames.
