Please can you tell me, where to find this two logs? Linux is a book with seven seals for me ;)
Linux can be complex ... BUT NAS is more complex due to the embedded approach and application specific integration ... :lol: :lol: just a large anarchic puzzle ...

Xorg log is in /usr/local/AppCentral/xorg/var/log/
Plexmediaplayer.log in : /usr/local/AppCentral/pmp2/home/.local/share/plexmediaplayer/logs

... changelog between 1.7.3 and 1.8.3 is here : https://github.com/intel/intel-vaapi-dr ... aster/NEWS (new version 2.x can't be used in this version of Xorg / Intel graphic driver)

I have an AS7004T connected to a Pioneer 7.1 capable receiver. Like the OP I too am having issues with the audio playback. The best I can get is stereo when trying to playback AC3 or DTS encodes. I am running X.org v10.14.7.R33 and FFmpeg v3.3.2.r11. I also use Kodi 17.6. It plays back all encodes even h265 without issue. I was hoping to replace Kodi with Plex as my main media player on the nas but it's not working out.
Can you please look at my logs to see if this will work?

Hi,

In log I don't see any trace of :

Pass-through enable in PMP
EDID extended information on sound capabilities in Xorg ??? (EDID is not only for screen resolution and frequency)

Please verify PMP configuration (audio configuration help in Plex.tv site is complete)
https://support.plex.tv/articles/212072 ... ia-player/
verify also HOW your sound cards are view by the Linux kernel (ADM)
open a terminal root / your password
cd /proc/asound
... here some folder named card0 (or multiple ... cardn)
... ... in asound you have lot of information on hardware (real)
... in card0 search for files like eld\#2.x ... it's the extended EDID receive by ADM from your screen / tv / receiver
ex. mine it's a simple screen so only stereo look like

Code: Select all

root@AS5002TaPhil:/proc/asound/card0 # cat eld\#2.0
monitor_present         1
eld_valid               1
monitor_name            BenQ GL2250H
connection_type         HDMI
eld_version             [0x2] CEA-861D or below
edid_version            [0x3] CEA-861-B, C or D
manufacture_id          0xd109
product_id              0x78a1
port_id                 0x0
support_hdcp            0
support_ai              0
audio_sync_delay        0
speakers                [0x1] FL/FR
sad_count               1
sad0_coding_type        [0x1] LPCM
sad0_channels           2
sad0_rates              [0xe0] 32000 44100 48000
sad0_bits               [0xe0000] 16 20 24
root@AS5002TaPhil:/proc/asound/card0 #
Normally for you ... you must see your receiver name and the correct channel and speakers supported ...

If all seem correct ... and nothing change ... don't hesitate to post in Plex Media Player forum with your receiver the plexmediaplayer.conf, the plexmediaplayer.log and the eld file for ex.
... even officially no Linux version is provide ... the code of PMP2 use for APKG is 100% without modification the code proposed by Plex.tv team

Do you have the sound feedback turned on? Its the setting found under "Main".

I have the same NAS and was having the same issue. I turned off sound feedback and everything started to work.

Heres a link from the Plex forums that goes through the issue more in depth.

Unfortunately :| I don't immediately see something wrong ...
... EDID for your Pioneer (PIO in Xorg log) seem to correspond with your hardware (?)
... eld ... indicate that you have an VSX-1128 ... supporting Dolby HD, 7.1 channel DTS, etc.

The only difference with my previous test (not with AVR I don't have one ... but with a small HDMI audio extractor and a low cost decoder) is in the choice of sound control ... not default ALSA but ALSA HDMI

Code: Select all

"device": "alsa/hdmi:CARD=PCH,DEV=0",
I will re run some test today or tomorrow ...
As I suggest ... don't hesitate to open discussion on official plex forum ... where you can have help from people using pass-through ... seem it's a real configuration difficulty ... Plex don't be fan of pass-through ... :roll: BUT with specialist knowing the code so able to have a complete understand of the plexmediaplayer.log contents ...

Last, seem that Asustor have changed (removed) some support for DTS / Dolby ... no idea where ... so perhaps this impact the audio settings ... even if user isewise seem to succeed to use pass-through on same model ...

Yes they did. The update to FFmpeg v3.3.2.r13 and X.org v10.14.7.r35 kills playback of all multichannel playback. I did an update to the web browser to v1.0.0.r5 to enable Amazon Video to work and it forced the new X.org to install. That killed any playback of stereo music files in Kodi. I installed PMP2 v2.80 to see if my library would play but got no sound from mp3 files also. I had to uninstall X.org and all associated apps and reinstall v10.14.7.r33. I also uninstalled then reinstalled FFmpeg v3.3.2.r11 just in case the newer version of X.org affected it. I reinstalled Kodi and did a restore from backup and for whatever reason it works better then before all this happened. It sure is puzzling as to why PMP2 is not cooperating. I have a Roku3 connected to the same AVR and it plays back everything correctly but I like the GUI on the PMP2 better.

Thanks again!

I finally got it working! I can playback h264 and h265 encodes in surround sound using PCM. Since card0 shows my edid info in eld#0.1, I chose HDMI #1 instead of alsa and disabled normalize downmixing and all the passthrough settings. If ANY of them are on there is no audio period. I had tried different settings earlier but I hadn't exited and restarted the player...that's the key when playing around with the audio settings! The confusing thing is that the configuration file shows "false" for allowing AC3 etc but they playback in PCM

Code: Select all

"audio": {
            "allowAC3": false,
            "allowDCA": false,
            "allowEAC3": false,
            "allowTrueHD": false,
            "audioBoost": 100,
            "channels": "7.1,5.1,2.0",
            "device": "alsa/hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=1",
            "devicetype": "hdmi",
            "exclusive": false,
            "normalize": false,
            "passthrough.ac3": false,
            "passthrough.dts": false,
            "passthrough.dts-hd": false,
            "passthrough.eac3": false,
            "passthrough.truehd": false
